Getting Fit is Easy

Getting in shape is EASY

Right, I could ruffle a few feathers with that line but hear me out

I have a secret for you,

Back about 4 years ago when I headed to Dublin to do a Personal Trainer course

It’s safe to say I knew jack s*** about strength training, body composition training, getting lean or healthy eating…

I was hurling with Galway at the time so I guess I knew a bit in terms of how to look after myself

But in my time in Dublin (6 weeks) I ended up in the best shape I’d ever been in

But here is the Kicker

It was TOTALLY accidental

I didn’t plan on getting ripped

I was just there to do a course!!!!

in fact, I’ll let you in on another secret

I’ve failed NUMEROUS times to get my body fat low enough to get a 6 pack

So what changed?

Well….

for a start I DIDN’T commit to getting a 6 pack

I committed to something DIFFERENT

and this is CRAZY simple

I committed to TRAINING 5 days a week.

We had to on our course anyway,

Because in this place it was practical based from day 1

and I committed to just eating better

Sean our course director told us from day 1 not to be rocking into his gym

With chicken rolls and crisps and other crap

He laid it on the line for us

In other places trainee PT’s could head to Maccy D’s for lunch

But here, NO WAY

I remember one day early in the course when Sean

Went through me for a short cut when he saw me eating

White bread sandwiches….. Lesson Learnt!!!

Everyday we trained and every day I watched what I ate

Not obsessive or anything because I had plenty free reign too at week ends

Or nights I stayed in Dublin and ate out

So it didn’t feel like punishment

because the truth is? Punishment leads to failure in the long term

coupled with the accountabilty of training for hurling,

I was in great shape without even thinking I was doing a ‘PROGRAM’ or ‘DIET’

Whats this got to do with you?

Complex fitness routines, diets and confusing conversations are for everyone else.

For you.....

Just make a start, don't try and turn your world upside down all at once.

Start, take small steps and be consistent.

Move more, Eat better, and enjoy life.

And Yes

that could mean forking out a few quid especially if you want proper coaching

And programming like you get in my gym, but this is also important,

The thing though that made it REAL EASY was the fact that I wasn’t alone

I had people on the journey with me..

If getting into shape is your goal, then know that there are people that can help

and they're are tonnes of people in the same boat - Me Included...

Why not reach out and get some advice…

It doesn’t matter what category you think you belong to (categorys don’t exist)

My mate Jason Kane summed up getting fit really simply one day at an

event we were at in Dublin

He said for most people getting a bit fitter and loosing some fat is the goal.

That means sweat 3/4 times a week and eat a little less.

In a nutshell that's it!!!
